Union contractors and carpenters with the New York City District Council of Carpenters built a bold new chapter for the Fashion Institute of Technology with the opening of the Joyce F. Brown Academic Building on West 28th Street. The new facility strengthens FIT’s position as a hub of creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning in the heart of New York City.
Skilled union carpenters and contractors completed extensive interior work throughout the building, including floor coverings and furniture installations that support modern classrooms, studios, and collaborative student spaces. This milestone showcases the expertise of union labor and the lasting value their craftsmanship brings to a campus designed to inspire the next generation of designers, artists, and creators.
